She was my first import. Mopaya means "pilgrim" or "traveler" in the local language of her birth place. Her full name is : Lukuru na Liboso Mopaya , the first pilgrim from the Lukuru.See more photos of Mopaya below with her pack.

Dr Jo Thompson is a Primatologist who has spent her life working to save the Bonobo Apes in the DRC. I noticed an email she sent to a basenji list two years ago and have been fascinated about anything she has posted since.
In recent days Dr Jo and her basenji boy Lukuru Amisi came to visit us in our home. Above are a few photos taken while he was here. Misi (as she calls him) was carried out of Lukuru in a harness made of vines as a pup. Dr Jo has brought to light the large pack of basenjis living in this area.
I will be updating this page with stories and posts from Dr Jo about her travels back to this area she has called home for 17 years and about the basenjis she has met and the people they live with.
Below are links to websites about her foundation, trips into the area she recently made with a pair of journalists from National Geographic and the page with photos of the basenjis she has brought to the states so far. I encourage people to read about her, see the photos and watch any video available.
More news of Dr Jo and Amisi to come...
Scroll down for links with information.
Dr Jo spoke at the Basenji Club of America National Specialty in Dallas Texas. Now she and the Lukuru are settling into their new home.
LOOK FOR UPDATES ON THESE DOGS IN THE NEAR FUTURE!
